Hybrid = progress?

“Progress is often to be found in hybrid forms, less in pure forms.”
I suppose that it is true for biology (I don’t know, do you?), but this was expressed today in a political context: in a panel-discussion on the Dutch politics of fear and the so-called double loyalty of the Muslim Dutchmen with two nationalities. (see an entry I wrote on March 19). We all have several loyalties, maybe not to different states, but at least to the different parts of our identity. So the question is if this frightens us or if it makes us happy! And this diversity means progress!
Without talking about race (pure, hybrid, whatever…) or other kinds of Darwin-like topics, I found it a refreshing way to discuss the integration of the new Dutchies in general and the double passport-issue in patrticular!
