“The train conductor against terrorism. 200.000 professionals work together against terrorism. You can do something too.” “NETHERLANDS against terrorism“
A very 11-september topic tonight.
Waiting for the train back home earlier tonight, I saw this advertisement. It reminded me of the brochure I received about a year ago, in which the government explained how it is working against terrorism. Back then I felt like they only put more focus on mistrust of others. We are 6 years after the event that spread mistrust (for the “strange other”) around the globe. Is this campaign the way to fight that?
This time I went to the website, and had a look at the text on what you can do for yourself. I was a little surprised to read that they say that the biggest danger of terrorism is the creation of an atmosphere of mistrust. And that we should continue to respect and trust each other. But then it continues to explain we need to be on the look out… for hidden backpacks for example…
Ofcourse the government knows very well about the importance of trust, but why don’t you see anything about this in their campaign?
I do realise the importance of fighting terrorism on the security-level, but do you need to win the heart and minds of the people for that?
